Ken Malmquist

Director of Research and Development

Ken Malmquist joined AsTech’s Application Security Team in 2004 after retiring from the U.S. Navy. Ken spent the first part of his Navy career as a nuclear power engineer on submarines. After transferring to the Navy’s Meteorology and Oceanography (METOC) community, he became involved in the network and web enablement efforts of both METOC and the wider Navy and Department of Defense (DoD). DoD faces unique security challenges when implementing web applications and service-oriented architectures, balancing the need to protect classified information with the need to share time–critical operational data with coalition partner nations.

Through immersion in this environment, Ken became acutely sensitive to network- and application-level security threats and effective solutions to those threats. Since joining AsTech, Ken has applied his experience to the analysis of the security posture of hundreds of financial services applications, and to helping our clients secure their computing infrastructures while leading the application security team.

Ken holds a degree in Physics from Drexel University and a Master’s degree in Ocean Engineering from M.I.T.
